This assignment was created and used for my Woods 1 and Woods 2 classes during distance learning. Normally during this class we would have had students build this end table hands-on, but during distance learning we developed this assignment for students to virtually build this project and to learn the basics of wood woodworking using a free online program called google sketchup. STEM Engineering - Spaghetti Tower Challenge
Students must cooperatively work as a team to build the tallest spaghetti towers out of spaghetti and marshmallows. During the planning phase, students are not allowed to speak. This allows students the chance to see the importance of communicating graphically. This project also allows students to see the importance of failures in engineering, as using marshmallows makes this project very complicated. Great opening activity to teach teamwork.
