Weekend Pet Journal
A pet journal is great for encouraging writing. While I have live pets my student take home, this journal could also be used for a stuffed animal. Depending on the grade level you can also adjust the directions. Included is a cover with my pet (for you to change), an example or sentence stem page, a ready to go draw and write page, and a page to keep your favorite clip art to print on sticker paper for the kids to enjoy.

This is an instruction sheet that gives questions that kids can answer for themselves. They will write a letter to themselves that they can open at the end of their time with you. I have used this in time capsules for my kids. It can also be used in a letter writing unit and to teach proper letter format.

Part of the Train your dragon program. This is a sample of what a student's dragon training journal could look like. This journal incorporates arithmetic skills, handwriting skills, and later can be a creative writing exercise. The mathematics involved can also lead into a discussion of percentages and probability for older students.
