Graphing Equations From a Table | Math Art Activity

Engage your pre-algebra or algebra students with this free math art activity. Students will practice graphing equations using a table. Not only are there two different options to help differentiate, but the results are beautiful stained glass type images to hang in your classroom. This freebie is a sample of my graphing art bundle. Click here to see more! Your students will love this "break" from their regular math routine. This activity is a perfect way to either begin graphing linear equatio

Graphing Linear Equations Picture Activity | Graphing Lines Worksheet

Great practice for graphing lines! This quick assignment gives 5 linear equations and a coordinate grid. Students graph the 5 lines, and when intersected, the lines form a simple star that they color. An optional rubric is included. There are 2 versions are given. Choose if you want:•all equations in slope-intercept form OR•equations in both slope-intercept form or standard form Use this as a quick formative assessment or as a mini project! All students need is a copy of this resource, a ruler,

Slope and Linear Equations Project

This is the perfect activity or project for your students to show off their creativity while finding the slope between two points and writing equations in slope-intercept form from one point and the slope. This can be assigned as a take-home project, an activity during class, or used during math centers. Student handout with instructions (PDF and .doc), graph paper (two options) and rubric are provided, along with examples of my own students' outstanding projects. This activity/project can be

Construct a Survey Lesson/Project Plan

This PDF document consists of three parts: a lesson plan, project instructions, and a grading rubric. The lesson has students construct a survey that will have at least two questions: one that is multiple choice and one that has a numerical answer. It can either be an individual assignment or a group assignment and takes 2-3 days. I used this towards the end of the year as a review exercise since it covers multiple concepts: percents, circle graphs, central tendency (with outliers), box-and-whis

Your students will apply their knowledge of Piecewise Functions to graphing and analyzing a Roller Coaster. Tasks include graphing parts of a piecewise function, determining the graph of linear piecewise functions, and analyzing the function using function notation and real-world applications. The extension activity allows students to use their creativity to design a new roller coaster by writing a piecewise function. This activity is very well scaffolded and is accessible to students of all abi

System Of Equations Project (With Relevant Student Problems)

This project incorporates relevant-to-student word situations and has students create, solve, and describe the equations, graphs, and tables of the two equations, as well as the solution to the system. It includes student handouts, an answer key, and rubrics for students, as well as a student-exemplar for them to refer to. It also includes an editable link to quickly change the names and make it more relevant to your students!

This activity applies a real life example of systems of equations. It proposes the question "Which restaurant would you eat at?". Students are given information about two different restaurants. They need to make predictions, write 2 linear equations, graph the linear equations, state the point of intersection (and explain what the intersection means), verify algebraically the point of intersection, and finally decide which restaurant they would eat at using all of the data from the activity.

Scatterplot Project Using Real Data

Students are asked to find an example of time-series data in which the dependent variable (y) varies linearly with time (X). The data should have a strong positive or negative correlation. Students will be asked to: Make a scatter plot of the data. Use a straight edge to draw a line of best fit. Find the equation of the line where they must show work for how they determined this. Use their equation to predict the value of the variable in 2012 and 2018. A very detailed rubric is provided. 1

This can be used as a work sample or just a different sort of assignment for creating linear equations from a lighthearted story problem. Students will first find the linear equation for each situation, make 3 tables and finally graph the information on a single graph to find points of intersection and answer the final questions in order to PROTECT THE KING'S LAND. The story problem is in word doc format and completely edit-friendly. Think the story problem is too silly? Change it! Think

Quadratics Cafe: Review of Graphing Quadratic Functions

A cute and fun activity that reviews graphing quadratics in standard, intercept and vertex form. It is designed to mimic a restaurant menu, complete with appetizers, entrees, and desserts. I have students work in pairs to complete all the appetizers, one choice of an entree and one choice of a dessert. In the different sections of the menu, students will practice:- identifying the vertex- identifying the axis of symmetry- identifying the x-intercepts- graphing a quadratic equation- rewriting

The Transformation Road Activity & Task gives students an opportunity demonstrate mastery using rotations, reflections, and translations to move an object from one location to another on a coordinate plane. Students will model two separate movement paths using transformations and document these movements using function or coordinate notation. Students will then create an equation or function to describe the movement they created. These findings will be shared with a classmate for collaborati

Kaleidoscope drawing - Geometric translations

Students practice isometry in the coordinate plane by transforming shapes through reflection, rotation, and translation. Students are given a starting set of coordinates and must transform the coordinates and graph the resulting shapes to reveal a kaleidoscopic drawing. This activity is appropriate for high school students and takes between 15 and 45 minutes to complete (depending on the students' skill level and whether they color their drawings).

I created this project from scratch. The main idea of this project is to have students create and research a vacation plan with an itinerary during Spring Break (or any kind of Break). They must research and look online for flight information along with all the activities they plan on doing for that single day at a city of their choosing. Once they research all of that, students will then need to calculate the slope of two points (from two different cities), then calculate the y-intercept, follo
