FREE Graphing Linear Equations Picture Activity

Great practice for graphing lines! This quick assignment gives 5 linear equations and a coordinate grid. Students graph the 5 lines, and when intersected, the lines form a simple star that they will color. An optional rubric is included.2 versions are given- the 1st has all the equations in slope-intercept form and the 2nd has some in both standard from and slope-intercept form. Use this as a quick formative assessment or as a mini project. You can use this activity at Christmas time to add a sta

Create A Number Line with Positive and Negative Integers

This free number line activity will help your students understand negative and positive integers.  Students often struggle with negative numbers, and often need visual help to grasp that -1 is larger than -3, etc. With this activity, students will construct their own number line and label numbers with the same absolute values.I recommend allowing your students to keep their own number line in their notebook or folder for reference when adding or subtracting integers.  This activity is designed t

Construct a Survey Lesson/Project Plan

This PDF document consists of three parts: a lesson plan, project instructions, and a grading rubric. The lesson has students construct a survey that will have at least two questions: one that is multiple choice and one that has a numerical answer. It can either be an individual assignment or a group assignment and takes 2-3 days. I used this towards the end of the year as a review exercise since it covers multiple concepts: percents, circle graphs, central tendency (with outliers), box-and-whis

Your students will apply their knowledge of Piecewise Functions to graphing and analyzing a Roller Coaster. Tasks include graphing parts of a piecewise function, determining the graph of linear piecewise functions, and analyzing the function using function notation and real-world applications. The extension activity allows students to use their creativity to design a new roller coaster by writing a piecewise function. This activity is very well scaffolded and is accessible to students of all abi

This activity applies a real life example of systems of equations. It proposes the question "Which restaurant would you eat at?". Students are given information about two different restaurants. They need to make predictions, write 2 linear equations, graph the linear equations, state the point of intersection (and explain what the intersection means), verify algebraically the point of intersection, and finally decide which restaurant they would eat at using all of the data from the activity.

Students are asked to find an example of time-series data in which the dependent variable (y) varies linearly with time (X). The data should have a strong positive or negative correlation. Students will be asked to: Make a scatter plot of the data. Use a straight edge to draw a line of best fit. Find the equation of the line where they must show work for how they determined this. Use their equation to predict the value of the variable in 2012 and 2018. A very detailed rubric is provided. 1

Money Line Plot and Coin Value Project

In this differentiated project, students will be reviewing the skills of counting coins, determining monetary amounts, making money combinations, and making a line plot using manupulatives. Teachers will give students a miscellaneous bag of coins (pennies up to half dollars). Students will create a line plot of the coins and answer interpretation questions about the line plot and the money. Then, students will interpret monetary amounts by "buying" items from a story and making combinations. P
