NONFICTION STUDENT WORKSHEETS My non-fiction student worksheet template is best used with non-fiction books, autobiographies, biographies, articles and fact based texts. It's a great tool to help kids become familiar with nonfiction text and is aligned with the Common Core's section titled Reading Informational Text. Included on the last page of the packet, is a note about the blank box. I like my students to include a sketch of something that relates to the topic. Feedback and Followers

"The Most Dangerous Game" Body Biography is an activity to help students with characterization. In my class, we always begin the year with this story to review basic literary terms. I always want to have a lesson the first week of school that is engaging, yet high-level. This activity is aligned with both TEKS and Common Core Standards. A grading rubric is also attached. I would recommend having students work in pairs or groups of three, however, this works well individually as well. This lesson

This is a great way to start working on STAAR passages with your students after the holidays. It is a very bright idea a coworker shared with me about four years ago to start implementing STAAR simulations in the classroom. I modified it a bit and gave it a name as well designed the thinking tracks that go along with it. It is a extremely engaging way to apply all knowledge previously taught in the classroom. Students will definitely enjoy the process. I hope it helps someone out there!

In addition, students create a catchy cover. This is a great assignment once a class has finished a whole class novel, or for students to use after finishing an independent reading book. Students often enjoy this task because it asks them to do more than they are used to. For example, students do not just identi
