I use this closer to the end of the year and give students multiple weeks to finish assignment. Students will create a Wanted poster about their shape.
My students drew their shape, then described its attributes in writing. They looked through magazines to find the 3D shape as an object in the world. They then cut out the object and glued it in "Recently seen as". Kids LOVE this project. Enjoy!

Students will build a city or town using the 3D cutout shapes provided. They will calculate surface area and volume of buildings and create a imaginative storyline with their findings. They will love this project and it gets them working together and working hands-on in the math classroom!
