The Innocence Project Project

Why is it necessary to follow crime scene procedure? What are the consequences of failing to do so? In this project, students will research people who have been wrongfully convicted of a crime, only to be exonerated years later. They will then create a video, where they pretend to be their favorite exoneree from their research and are interviewed by a friend. Includes teacher instructions and rubric. Requires 3 90-minute blocks, but a 4th can be used if you want the students to show their videos

Using this project, students will find articles that not only interest them but that also relate to classroom content during a DNA and Protein Synthesis Unit. I usually prompt students to use this as an opportunity to find articles that cover something that they are passionate about or curious about. For example, I've had students find articles about biotechnology ethics when it comes to finding and sequencing DNA of crime suspects left at places such as restaurants without a search warrant. I'v

This is a great project for forensic science teachers discussing problems with eyewitness evidence. It uses information found on the Innocence Project website. Students create a poster in the style of an old western "WANTED" poster highlighting an individual who was convicted through eyewitness testimony but who was exonerated. Grading rubric is included! I had students make the posters on 11 x 17 paper; they had the choice to use computer imagery and text or to hand-draw and write. One sug

Forensic Science Poster Project

I have found that I am going to frequently run out time during a six weeks in forensic science. I need to give two tests per six weeks at my school, but I need a lot of time to do forensic labs (sometimes the whole week). My solution was to come up with a poster project for the students to do to give them another test grade. As long as I don't put any limit on the subject they can choose (except for it to be a crime), they love doing them. Hope this helps! The rubric was made on this site: h

I teach a Forensic Science class which is mostly seniors (12th grade). In order to help increase literacy, I have them read a book of their choosing related to forensic science. It can be fiction or nonfiction. I give them 20-30 min of class time to read over about 3 weeks. I do this so that they do not have to do all the reading outside of class.
