Independent Reading Check-in Sheets
Check that students are actively reading the books they select. The purpose of this resource is to encourage engagement and monitor progress in students' self-selected reading. Students answer a journal question over what they have read each day and record the number of pages read. Teachers can check students' progress through their books and conduct conferences over what they have read. The Reading Check-in Sheet can be modified by reducing the number of questions students have to select. Happy

Independent Reading Rubric - CCSS Aligned
This triangular-shaped rubric can be used for Independent Reader Journaling, D.E.A.R. Time Reflections, or other types of Close Reader writing. Each level of the pyramid requires slightly mote rigorous reflection, and is aligned with NYSED Common Core Learning Standards. This scaffolded approach to close reading reflection allows for students to self-monitor for overall reading comprehension and thorough reflection.
