Ser vs Estar Partner Activity and Quiz
This sheet can be used as a partner activity or a quiz.
For the partner activity: Cut the sheet in half. Students will complete the sentences using the correct form of ser or estar. At the bottom of the sheet each student has the correct answers to his partner's sentences. Students then take turns in reading their sentences to each other and checking their answers.
For the quiz: The second page (without the answers at the bottom) can also be used as a brief quiz to check for understanding.

After presenting and explaining the idea of cognates to my students, it's now time to read! Here are two quick cognate heavy paragraphs that I give to my Spanish 1 students within the first couple days of class.
Students are prompted to underline all words they do not know and then guess using the context clues that surround those words.
Ser, Estar and Tener: Practice or Quiz Using the Three Verbs
Students must read 20 sentences and decide which verb to use and write the correct conjugation in present tense. They must then write the rule as to why that verb is being used. Great tool to mix up the three verbs and make the students think about the rules at hand.
