Denotation and Connotation Activity for fun
This activity should be used after a lesson on denotation and connotation. You should have students think of car names in the past and the connotation of their description, i.e. Mustang, Rabbit, Trail Blazer. So, I rewrote Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" to include information about cause and effect, question and answer, description, problem and solution, compare and contrast, and chronological order/sequence. I currently have students on the autism spectrum that are unable to distinguish/answer simple WH questions. So I use these not only for IEP data but as practice and learning tools.
I read the sentence to the student, have them read them back, and then ask the following WH questions. I always write their immediate responses with no prompting. Then after each question is answered we go back and use color
