This project is designed for 8th graders studying the Middle Ages. The project is designed so that kids get to pick and choose different activitites, each worth a different number of points. They essentially pick from a list of mini projects to design their own project. It would work for English and/or history classes and is easy to adapt. It was popular with students and parents appreciated it too.

This highly entertaining and engaging mock trial will reinforce any lesson on the events leading up to and surrounding the creation of the Magna Carta. Students will create a courtroom and decide how King John will be remembered in history. I have successfully used this lesson with students in 3rd thru 12th grade. A great mini-activity for a unit on the Protestant Reformation or Martin Luther that encourages students to use their school's agenda or rulebook to create their own original list of "95 Theses". Medieval Role Playing Activity
This is a group project that takes a single class period. This is the one lesson that students come back to me years later still laughing about how much fun it was. The students will be divided into small groups with a member of Medieval society assigned to them (Peasant, Pope Gregory, etc). The students will spend the first half of the class researching their assigned character.
