I knew this year the students will be required to write a lot of QuickWrites. I wanted a rubric that was rigorous and clear for the students. I noticed the benefit of this rubric as I started grading the students I teach QuickWrites. I was able to immediately identify trends, and it helped take the murkiness out of grading. Argumentative Writing - CLAIM SENTENCE STARTERS
Does it drive you absolutely bonkers that students feel the need to say "I think" to start their claim??? For some reason, students are compelled to say it even though a claim is a statement of what they think. This simple list of sentence starters allows students to say "I think," but in a more creative way.

I use these rubrics to help students form full paragraphs. This follows the “hamburger paragraph” format/requirements. I use this to give to students as a checklist when writing a paragraph, and I also use it when grading student work for parts of a paragraph.
