Math Estimation Jar Take Home Fun
Have fun in math as children take turns bringing home the class "Estimation Jar" each week. When the jar is returned on Monday, children write their estimations on sticky notes. Make sure to use that rich math vocabulary as the items are laid out, grouped, and skip counted. Discuss greater than, less than, tallying, and size as upon completion. Shout the Shapes: song and games to teach shape vocabulary
I created these activities to teach shape vocabulary to my young English language learners. I used them with my mixed-age, mixed ability class (pre-K to G2) and they all loved it. The activity works for English-speaking students as well as ELLs. Multiplication and Division Chant
I use this chant to help my students memorize the vocabulary associated with multiplication and division. I teach it as call and response. I begin saying, "In multiplication," and they respond "In multiplication..." We continue as call and response, line by line, until they have it memorized. The pictures after each line represent the motions we do as we chant. Before each math lesson, we do this chant. It's also a great time filler if we have a minute to use up!

Analog Clock Song
To the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot" this song helped my students for the past two years (since I wrote it) to remember which hands do what on an analog clock. I write it up on plain white butcher paper with the spoken part a different color than the song. I use a black marker to draw analog clocks around it.
