With elementary children moving around the school for specialized classes, getting to a door can sometimes be disruptive. This short lesson by Patricia Kienzle has already proven itself very useful. It is a great management tool to use at the beginning of a new schoolyear. After discussing what polite adults do when a line is behind them at a door, children practice good manners while singing a song to the tune of London Bridges. If you have a toy magic wand, it is a great opportunity to u

This chant is how I begin class everyday. Not only is it a great way for the kids to get motivated for class (and teach them to spell the word achievement), but it's a great procedure for beginning a class. We pat, pat (our desks), and clap, clap (our hands) in rhythm through the chant. The kids love it and so do I. It's also a great way to raise motivation before a test or big assessment, as well!

We sing this song at our school weekly, substituting our mascot (Broncos) in place of winners, thus becoming Broncos are not Bullies. You could do that for your school mascot also. This song is fun to sing and promotes respect.

The song was written as a fun listening exercise. The students need to focus on the directions and it gives them a chance to move their bodies. The song has been used from grades K-7 (however, the older students liked it for the novelty). With a discussion about the expectations, some clarification with some movements, and guidelines that fit your class, the song can break up a long day. The MP3 of the song is on another page in my profile. (Quality could have been better) There is also a .z
