Commercial Composition Project
This is a 4 lesson mini-unit for general music class. The students are asked to create a short commercial advertising a newly invented product, and compose a short "jingle" to advertise the product. Students perform the commercial in class or video record their project outside of class and the class views the recording.
I have done this project several times, and my students always impress me with their creativity. This project aligns with thje following National Music Standards:

Chrome Music Lab Songmaker Assignment
This editable file can be used in class or assigned for remote learning in google classroom. Students are instructed to create their own song using the Songmaker game in Chrome Music Lab. There are written directions with pictures so that students in elementary and middle school can easily follow. You can have students submit their work through google classroom and directions are included for students. This is a fun activity to share with the class too when everyone's project is complete.

The Crane
Composition: “The Crane” was written for two sets of Concert Toms and Bass Drum. Composed in 5/4 meter it is a challenge for the beginning Percussionist. Not only is the meter a challenge, but the focus is also on playing as an ensemble. Rehearsal marks are made to teach the form in the music. “The Crane” pictures a crane wading through the marsh on a hunt for tiny fish.

American Revolution Boston Massacre: Create a Song or Jingle
This assignment is to create a song or Jingle on the Boston Massacre. It has two different rubrics and instructions about pitch, lyrics, melody and beat. It also has a teachable moment about the song Yankee Doodle and how the song came to be as it was originally an insult sung about Americans from British officers in the army. This is a lesson that students will love and they will never forget the Boston Massacre. Have them sing their songs to the class.

Composition: “Chopsticks” is a well-known musical composition for keyboard instruments. I have arranged it for two xylophones and a marimba for a grade 1 difficulty for beginning players.
Options:
1. Bell sets may also be used in this arrangement.
2. Two players may play the marimba parts separately.
3. Piano may be used for the marimba parts.
4. First section may be repeated at a faster tempo.
