We do an Author Study every year on Eric Carle. After reading Pancakes, Pancakes with the class, have the kids cut out the sequencing sentences and put them in order. Teach them how to draw a corresponding picture with each sentence to better understand where our food comes from and how recipes turn into food!

My third graders loved to come up with the worst sounding recipes (they love to make their teacher gag! :) I gave each student a recipe page, and we made a classroom recipe book! The students love to open up this book and read about the different recipes that their peers came up with!
