Preview of Cars Down a Ramp Friction Lab

Cars Down a Ramp Friction Lab

This is an experiment for students dealing with friction, force, and motion. It will take students through each step of the scientific method. The students will be using a binder and matchbox car to discover how friction effects how far a car will go. They will make a car go down a binder, measure, and record how far it went. Then, they will put the car down the ramp again using sandpaper, wax paper, and bubble wrap. These results will be recorded. The students will finish by making a conclusion

This project correlates with my unit on forces and motion in my physical science middle school class. Over a span of three days, students design a car that will protect a raw egg from breaking when it hits the ground after being on a ramp. The students will then test and modify their design. Included are directions, student reflection questions, and a rubric to assess the student's egg car. This project was highly engaging and educative in my class. Students must use their critical thinking skil

Candy Bar Density Lab

Students can work individually or in teams of up to 4 on this lab. By determining mass and volume (using 2 different methods: LXWXH and water displacement method) students determine and compare the densities of various fun-sized candy bars. This lab reinforces how to find mass, volume and density and helps explain their relationship to each other. It also teaches the formula for density and reviews independent and dependent variable. Additionally, this lab incorporates practice with analyzing da

Try It Before You Buy It! NGSS Force and Motion - Sail Car (grades K &3)

That's right! Download a free copy of the sail car lesson for free. I decided that I wasn't making very much through TPT and would rather have teachers access and use my resources for free. In this lesson, students build identical sail cars, then experiment with different variables for sails (i.e., sizes, shapes and materials) to determine which design is the most effective. Reviews and suggestions for improvement are encouraged! If you have a question or need a lesson for a particular topic,

Excellent Elements, Awesome Atoms, and Mighty Molecules project

This short research project is intended for upper elementary school students. I teach 6th grade in Ohio, and this project is intended to meet the following standard: 6PS1.0 All matter is made up of small particles called atoms. 6PS1.3 Elements are a class of substances composed of a single kind of atom. 6PS1.4 Molecules are the combination of two or more atoms that are joined together chemically. 6PS1.5 Compounds are composed of two or more different elements. The first page is a sim
