Roller Coaster Design - Transformations of Functions

I created this project for my IB Approaches and Analysis Course. This is also useful for Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus courses. All three courses heavily use transformations of functions and can apply the parent functions to this course. This 13 page document with calendar and table of contents took me at least 12 days to complete from beginning to end, but it was worth it for the students to engage in meaningful conversations.

U.S. Federal Budget Project Guide

Joel Troge
This is an easy-to-implement project that I have used in my U.S. Government courses in the past, although it could be adapted for use in U.S. history or even an applied math course. The learning focus is to get students to make the connections from values to numbers and recognize that differing political perspectives can be seen in how the federal budget takes shape.

Similarity Performance Task - Alternative Assessment

This was a performance task I gave to my geometry students after our unit on Similarity. *It could be used at multiple grade levels* It presents a real life scenario and requires students to use their knowledge of similarity to find lengths, perimeters, areas and volumes of similar figures. The task guides students to think of multiple solutions to the same problem and make conjectures about volumes of similar figures. This was created as a word document so it can be easily adapted and edited

Real-Life Problem Geometry: Distance, Midpoint, Circumcenter (Editable)

The current task was used as a summative Criteria C&D task for the unit Geometry for Grade 9 (MYP4). The students were allowed to work on the task for two consecutive classes, for a total period of 180 minutes. The uniqueness of the nature of the solution required allowed students to complete this task from home, since it was created during the time of online learning (2020).The task includes full descriptors for the two criteria of assessment, command terms, full expectations of the method

This rubric is great for problem solving modules. I used this when I gave my students extremely challenging math problems that required collaboration to solve. This is best used with students in middle school and high school. Students can assign themselves the following roles:-Facilitator. Makes sure all group members are on task (no cell phones).-Spokesperson. Gets input from group before asking teacher a question.-Quality Control. Checks group’s answers to make sure it is accurate. Makes sure

Single Point Rubric for providing feedback and assessing Graphs. Can be used for any type of graph. Based on students accompanying the graph with an analysis paragraph (i.e. including one measure of central tendency, why this graph type is the most appropriate, and making a real-world connection) Single Point Rubric features criteria on accuracy of drawing (x3) and analysis (x4). Two rubrics per page.

Mathematics Research Project

This is a great end of year research project for any math course at a multitude of grade levels! From start to end of presentations, this project took me two weeks to complete - I give specific dates for each goal and give a grade for completion of each goal. The points I gave are listed on the information sheet. I created this in Word and it can be edited to fit your classroom and your needs. Students are asked to research a famous mathematician, write a research paper and give a presentation.
