Miss Cholita - la belleza y la estética
This activity teaches us that beauty contests go beyond what we standardly consider "beauty" - the Miss Cholita pageant "does not feature bikinis, but rather indigenous women who wear the traditional dress of wide skirt, bowler hat and long plaited hair." In this activity, students will read an article about the disgraced contestant who almost won - but due to her false braids, did not. Students will answer questions about the article and compare to their own community.

I put a bunch of scientists on a random wheel here: Wheel of Names so that no two students choose the same scientist. Then the student will draw make a paper cut design on the left and describe some basic facts about their life on the right. The hispanic family is a tight knit unit, although it has changed over the years. In this set of activities, students will first answer some questions about their own family, then watch a video from youtube about "la familia hispana" and answer questions.
