For this activity, I had my students visit the Art Institute of Chicago, and had them analyze their favorite painting in the museum. Students wanted choice so I gave it to them. In the past, I made them present on Frida Kahlo or Remedios Varo, but this time I had them choose their own painting and in real life, they produced even better presentations. The Nutcracker: A Craft-ivity

Students love the story of the Nutcracker. Included in this document is a re-telling of the story and a fun project! Students color and cut out a nutcracker doll, then glue him to an empty paper towel roll for a 3D nutcracker of their very own. This can easily be done in a 20 to 30-minute time period in school, but it is fun to give this as a take-home project so that students can use additional materials (sequins, beads, feathers, etc.) and bring back for a colorful display at school!

These new values were painted in the "scoops" of ice cream. This document is an editable word document.

This is a well-loved project that I give to my Photography 1, Computer Graphics 1 as well as my traditional media classes to give them a taste of digital art. The students don’t necessarily need to have any Photoshop experience if the class is good at following written and visual directions with many steps and help each other. My students love this project so much that although I require two, they often do several more, and often choose them for the art show. I think it feels a bit like magic to
