Art Gallery Project | Presentar una obra de arte | AP Spanish Belleza y estética
- Word Document File
Description
For this activity, I had my students visit the Art Institute of Chicago, and had them analyze their favorite painting in the museum. Students wanted choice so I gave it to them. In the past, I made them present on Frida Kahlo or Remedios Varo, but this time I had them choose their own painting and in real life, they produced even better presentations.

Instructions for the teacher:
I had my students visit the Art Institute of Chicago, because they have a wonderful permanent exhibit on Surrealist painters from Europe and the Americas. However, if students really fell in love with another painting, I allowed them to pick it if they could defend their reason.
If you do not have Access to a museum, you can bring the museum to the classroom! Just print the paintings around the classroom and créate your own art gallery.
Another option is to have students browse museum sites in Europe, the United States or Latin America. The museum, El Prado in Madrid or Museo Reina Sofía have wonderful online exhibits that we can browse through.
Afterwards, have students fill out the worksheet provided and have them analyze. I then give them about two days to research the painting. Some are harder than others depending how famous the painting is.
After they are done with their research, have students create a PowerPoint presentation, and present entirely in Spanish. I give them the weekend or two days to practice their oral presentations at home.
Then we take two days to present in public, and the teacher uses the same rubric from page 1 to grade students. As students present individually, the rest of the class takes notes using the worksheet on pages 4-8. That way we all learn about so many different paintings from each other as opposed to reading a book or watching a movie about only one artist.
Use the pages as followed:

I use this Project for the theme of beauty and aesthetics, but that is no requirement!
¡No prep needed! ¡Just print!
