Building a Positive Classroom Climate: Inclusion Activity Grades 6-9

Planning a Healthy Meal and Shopping Template (Special Education)
This is a meal planning guide that incorporates the 5 basic food groups. Students will use a cookbook to decide on the main course of the meal, and from there will add on side dishes to help balance the food groups presented in the meal. Students will then make a shopping list of the needed materials. If applicable, they can shop for the food items at the store, working to find the total cost of purchase, use the "dollar up" method to pay, and calculate the amount of change they should get back.

In this lesson, students use an online simulation to investigate how vaccines can slow the spread of disease. They then read an article about vaccines and herd immunity, and make connections between the two. A homework assignment at the end asks them to review all the activities from the first 2 lessons in this unit, to prepare for a game of Blooket in class the next period.
