Link provided to American Indian Smithsonian website on the Trail of Tears with five subsections. I liked using this webquest because it focuses on Cherokee culture from their perspective and how they were before and how they've rebuilt afterwards. There are pictures and videos for the students to explore, and short paragraphs for them to read and answer 1-4 questions per section. Identifying and Avoiding Stereotypes PowerPoint Lesson
The purpose of this lesson is to help students identify stereotypes and to know how to avoid them. I use a variety of commercials and advertisements to show various stereotypes.
The four categories of stereotypes addressed in this lesson are:
- gender stereotypes
- personal stereotypes (jock, nerd, blonde, etc.)
- professional stereotypes (librarian, cop, lawyer, etc.)
- racial stereotypes (focus is on: African-American, white, Native American Indian, and Native Alaskan)
