In this project, students use Calculus to find the volume of a real object without a simple geometric formula. The file includes a one-page description of the project and a half-page rubric for grading. This document contains 7 projects that I use in my AP calculus class. Most of them are geared toward an AP class. Rubrics for all 7 are included with the number of pages. 1 - review of pre-calc material for the first week of class. The students have to present their topic to the class and assign homework to the class. 2 - creating multiple choice questions. They have to create questions in the format of the AP test, including incorrect answers. 3 - creating a limit example. Students have to s

Stand and Deliver Movie Questions

This 5 page document allows students to write character descriptions as they watch the movie. It also provides questions which ask them to consider important themes and messages as they watch. Easy to answer questions are provided for students to fill in while watching the movie to keep them attentive. Then, after the film, 8 essay questions are provided to get more in-depth responses about controversial topics discussed in the movie. Use this movie guide as an instructional classroom tool

Real Life Math - Where am I ever going to use this? End of year project

Created by

Have your students ever asked "Where am I ever gonna use this in real life?". Well, they'll be able to answer that questions after doing this assignment. In this assignment, students will research the math topic in depth including the mathematician who discovered it, where it is used in real life and how. This is great for an end of year, end of the quarter or extra credit assignment or just for a break in the action. Included in this 6 page packet are instructions/description of assignment

Calculus End Of Year Projects (5 TOTAL!)

You are purchasing 5 projects for the end of the year in Calculus. I have my students complete 3 of the 5 projects. This document will be fully editable so if you want to add/change some things you will have the power to do so. Project #1: Math Interest / Presentation Project #2: A to Z - what they learned Project #3: Jeopardy Review Game (you will need to give your students a blank Jeopardy template to use. You can find these online!) Project #4: Song Project #5: Letter to Future Stude

The Rollercoaster project is interactive and hands-on to assess the student's knowledge of polynomials and slopes. Students work in groups of 3-4 and will complete the assignment in roughly a week. Teachers can alter the amount of time needed for completion. Student's have their own roles and room for creativity. This would work as a great quarter project for a review of turning points, end behaviors, and writing polynomial functions.

This is a project I assign to my AP Calculus students as a way to review for the AP. It is based off the calculus book for dummies concept. Each chapter has an individual set of requirements, all created by myself. Please feel free to edit as you see fit.It is a great project to review for the AP calculus AB and BC exam. I assign it to the students and let them have free reign on how they want to present the books. Requirements are no loose leaf paper and it must be typed if they have poor hand

End of Year Math Project - I can teach __________!

So it is the end of the year. You're burnt out. The kids are burnt out. But you need to review for the Final Exams/End of Year Testing. Here is a great project for your students that will get them engaged and have them reviewing the material without the class getting bored with the same old examples. In this project, students have just been hired as the new (Insert Subject Here) Teacher at their school! Now it is their job to teach the rest of the class what they need to know for the end of ye

This activity is a fun activity that mixes Calculus with a bit of art. The activity comes complete with directions for the students, photos of previous work by students, and a fairly simple rubric for easy grading by the instructor. My students have loved this activity for years and I think yours will too. Appropriate for any level of calculus whether it is a college prep course or AP Calculus AB or BC.

This witty project has the students utilize a number of Calculus concepts such as: Riemann sums, over/under approximations, the FTC, accumulation, average value and average rate of change. It has the students analyze student reading abilities and see whether the new computer program geared towards helping students read is more effective than the famous English teacher Mrs. Kreat! This is great after the AP test, but would also be useful before hand in preparing for free response questions.

This project is designed for a AP or non-AP Caluculus class. Students will use calculus, specifically differentiation, to design a roller coaster taking into consideration the height of their design, speed, and angles of ascent and descent. Students will use differentiation to find maxima and minima points along their track and discuss the importance of continuity and differentiability for a safe ride. I have also used this project in a PreCalculus class that covers continuity and differentiatio

This is a series of 5 mini-projects focusing on optimization (or analyzing other features of functions) using differential calculus. I call them "mini-projects" because each of them can be completed over the course of 2-3 hour-long class periods, depending on students' mathematical backgrounds. They can be done individually, but probably work better as small group projects. Each project handout gives all the relevant background information, and then frames a series of questions. They are desig

Zombies and Exponential Growth

This is a project relating exponential growth and decay to the zombie apocalypse. Students go through the infection and deprive their equation with the help of a table. Apply change of base formula and logs to find calculations, and get a short glimpse at exponential decay. The packet is about 6 pages in all. My students really enjoyed it!! I am uploading as a word doc so you can change the names of schools/teachers.

I selected my groups, which I called Lab Groups, based on having one high performing student and one low performing student in each group. I used these lab activities as a grade. They can also be used as final or AP exam practice. They are perfect for end of the year activities to prepare for finals
