First Friday STEM Math Engineering Activities
Every First Friday of the month my students and myself do a 'First Friday' Math Engineering Challenge. I like to do this because it keeps the spark in math and it shows them that there is more to math than learning equations and integer rules, etc. It also teaches them team work and to think critically. Great project for students to plan their own dream trip to 5 cities. They need to find the transportation cost to create a weighted graph and then apply Euler and Hamilton Circuits to their graph. They will also use the Nearest Neighbor Algortihm. Lastly, they will determine how much money they would need to save based on their income to afford to go on their trip. Graph Theory Mini-Project Homework Create Based on Requirements
This is a short in-class mini-project where students use an online graph creator to create graphs based on a set of requirements. There are 15 problems plus a create your own. The requirements included working with edge sets, vertex sets, connected and disconnected graphs, even and odd degree vertices, parallel edges, loops, bridges, paths and circuits of set lengths.
