TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 7+ years experience teaching math to grades 6-12. I have taught: 7th grade Prealgebra, 8th grade Prealgebra, 8th grade regular math, Algebra 1, Geometry, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB and BC, Advanced Functions and Modeling, as well as the new NC Math 1 and Math 2. I have also served as the math department chair for 4 years. I also am on the NC Math Task Force where a group of teachers help make decisions about upcoming changes in curriculum and graduation requirements related to math. I also do online tutoring using scriblink.com

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love connecting math to the outside world in a way that is relevant to students. My lessons, activities, etc. are unique and outside of the box a lot of times. In fact, my coworkers say I have lost sight of the box, but in a good way! I can't imagine teaching Calculus without Play-doh, pound cake, or plastic margarita glasses. I also like group work and cooperative learning.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have taken 3 of my students to the NC High School Math Contest Finals two years in a row. I have had a team of students make it to the last round of the Moody's Mega Math Challenge. Two time recipient of the Federal SMART grant.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Degrees Held: Masters in Mathematics Bachelors in Secondary Math Education Mechanical Engineering Associate of Arts Associate of Science

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love to quilt! I also raise Pembroke Welsh Corgis.
