This is similar to an investigative task where the students work through simulating and calculating probabilities associated with the classic claw machine game. Topics: simulation, sampling, binomial distribution, geometric distribution, confidence intervals, significance testing, probability, expected value.
Also - this packet ends with questions regarding how well a student could expect to perform on standardized assessments by guessing. This mostly uses binomial and geometric distributions.

I use this extended project throughout the semester while we explore statistical inference (sampling distributions, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing for one and two samples for means and for proportions). I incorporated marathon data to explore various questions that could be answered using confidence intervals and hypothesis testing using one and two samples. I used these primarily as an end-of-the-chapter project that was a great review for students before the test.
