Paper Airplane 5th Grade Common Core 5.MD.2 Line Plot Performance Task
This task allows students to work in groups to construct a paper airplane, fly it, measure the distance flown, and then create a line plot based on their data. This comes with student friendly instructions, and guiding questions for students to complete following the completion of their line plot. This is an activity I used to reinforce fraction operations in my 6th grade math class. The students created a class recipe book by each bringing in three of their favorite recipes. They had to include a list of ingredients, as well as instructions for doubling, tripling, or halving the recipe. Fraction Flowers (Percent, Decimal, and Fraction Conversions)
This math activity integrates both math and art. Students create a "fraction flower," with a fraction (in simplest form) as the flower's center. On the surrounding petals, students find three different equivalent fractions and both the percent and decimal conversion of the center fraction. In this activity, students are required to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. They then are required to create either a Google Slides to show creativity or complete it on a poster board. This includes a rubric. Then, students are given the shopping list. They have to answer ten easy questions which involves decimal operations and unit rate!
