This Word document is a 6-page Webquest/Internet search activity that takes the learner through different aspects of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig tragedy. This assignment goes very well with the PowerPoint presentation that is also found on this TPT site. This assignment is designed for each student to do on their own, but could easily be adapted to partners or small groups. It would also be easy to adjust to different grade levels and abilities. The activity includes the Web site links

Story of a Watershed

About 7 1/2 minutes long, this film, which was underway well before the hurricane season, could be a good start for fall 2017 geography or science classes aware of recent news events. It gives an overview of most conditions that occur in a wide variety of watersheds, covering how storm water behaves and nourishes the land as it is funneled towards its final destination, showing problems caused by runoff and opportunities along the way. It concludes with a review of old knowledge and new method

The Farm at Night

This video grew out of real sightings on a nearby farm at various times of almost every animal shown in a series of imaginary "scenes" in a style using animations or footage over photo backgrounds. The sequence leaves out daytime animals we are also familiar with which don't appear (groundhogs, squirrels, turtles and snakes, deer, rabbits, hawks etc). The "plot" is simply a sunrise taking over to yield morning at the end. There is also a rough thread of starting from plant life, a pond reference

When teaching about Earth Day there are many things humans need to remember about the Earth. The quote by Chief Seattle, "All things are connected. Whatever befalls the Earth befalls the sons of the Earth. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself." This quote is a wonderful way to have students reflect about what the meaning of Earth Day is about. It reminds all humans to think about the consequences their behaviors have

Food Web Activity Writing Rubric

This is the writing component of my free lesson plan "Food chains to Food Webs". It is used after students have created a food web from food chains, which they also created on the provided free templates. I collaborated with English teachers in an effort to use proper language for students in this cross-curriculum activity. This writing component also satisfies the "Explain" part of the standard covered in my free lesson plan.
