Because we are evil teachers with evil, cackling laughs, we will entice and engage students like the witch in Hansel and Gretel with a metaphorical candy house. Oh, this looks like all fun and games, but that’s not how we evil teachers do things! You know that STEM activity going around where you have a certain amount of time to build a tower out of notecards? This activity takes the notecard tower activity to about level 44. At Portable Gifted and Talented, we love to build stuff, and we love pl

INVENTION- CREATIVITY WORD PROMPT: GRADES 4-8: MG,GIFTED & TALENTED, SCIENCE

This is a science related writing prompt using imagination and creativity. Students are asked to imagine an invention and write about it. Then, students draw a picture of it. They are prompted to mention the invention's capabilities, as well. Use it for a class contest. Use it for a science supplemental lesson. Use it for a science club! Hang them up on a bulletin board for visitors! Imagination is much more important than knowledge, as Einstein has taught us. Knowledge is limited. Thanks

This lab is a guided inquiry lab where students learn how to take experimental data and verify an existing equation. The only materials that are needed are small springs and some mass to put on them (http://www.arborsci.com/springs-set). You will need to know the spring constant of the spring. This lab take about 1.5 hours and requires a lot of critical thinking on the students part.

Simple Series Circuit Worksheet 1 - Distance Learning

Simple Circuit Worksheet. I ask what is the total resistance of the circuit. On the back of the page, I ask them to draw and equivalent circuit. I ask them to solve for current (I) and indicate on the schematic diagram the direction of the conventional current flow. I have them draw an “A” into the schematic diagram where you would place an ammeter to find the current of the circuit. I ask them to calculate the voltage drop across the 20 ohm resistor (V1), draw into the schematic diagram where y

Velocity vs Acceleration: How Do They Compare?

This worksheet compares constant velocity to a car accelerating. Students graph a car starting from rest from a red light and accelerating at a constant rate speed of 6 m/sec2. They compare this to a truck already moving at a constant speed. Students get a lot of practice calculating the average speed and manipulating acceleration. The students then graph their results and interpret the graph.
