This activity is ideal for classrooms without access to many instruments, but available technology for each student. Skip-Counting Rhymes
These simple and effective skip-counting rhymes will empower your students! I post one poster by the door and we recite the rhyme (using fun movements) as we line up for lunch, recess, specials, anything! By December my students could skip-count up to 10 X 10 and were highly successful with their multiplication and division facts. Flight of the Bumblebee: Listening Chart
Here is a listening chart for your students to follow along to while listening to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee. I have used it with my 1st grade students with great success to discuss the melodic themes and contour. Using a listening chart also makes it easy to assess the students. For example, you can ask if the little bees were loud or soft, short detached sounds or long connected ones, etc.

Draw What You Hear Worksheet
Very simple activity I complete with my 5th and 6th graders when we discuss "Absolute Music" (music for the sake of music) in music history lessons.
Students are asked to listen to a selection of music (I choose a piece from the Classical Period to align with the larger content we are learning) and draw what they hear. It can be a single image to an entire story. It is meant to be and abstract right brain activity, but some students will literally draw the instruments that they hear.
