FREE Musical Instrument Sort
This is a Notebook file I created to begin talking to students about the different ways we can make sounds from musical instruments.
When you click on each image of the instruments, the appropriate noise is made (ie someone drumming, a guitar playing). Simply play each one and have students decide how that instrument is played. Then move that image into the correct column. I have intentionally only used 9 instruments with 10 spaces to get students thinking.

This notebook file is perfect for teaching the concepts of "heartbeat" of songs and rhymes and beginning rhythm notation. Students can touch the screen to view rhymes, and watch a heartbeats appear and disappear while learning and practicing nursery rhymes. Apple Tree: A folk song with rhythm activities
This SMARTboard presentation covers many musical elements with one folk song about apples! First, students sight read a folk song using the pitches la, so, and mi and then uncover boxes to read the song text. On the second slide students can manipulate the different types of apples to form various rhythm word chains for a B section. The third and fourth slides assess students' ability to read traditional rhythm notation. The final slide is an improvisation activity older students will enjoy.
