This unit goes along with the book "Fletcher and the Falling Leaves", written by Julia Rawlinson. There are two LA lessons that focus on the descriptive elements of the story. I used these with my Kinder-4th grade students and with my 5th-8th grade students. All students really enjoyed the story and the activities. This unit also has two math activities. A great way to have students share their activities over a break. This one is geared towards the winter break, but can easily be changed to reflect any break. I don't do a lot of activities like this, but it helps with my classroom culture when we return as it allows them to talk during morning work. They want to talk when they return from break, so this gives them that freedom and makes it part of their 'school work.'

This activity was created for my social group (primary and high school levels). I placed the cards (once I cut them into strips) in a gingerbread house box that I bought from the Dollar Store. The students picked a card from the box and asked and answered each others questions while working on eye contact, initiating topic, maintaining topic, personal space, etc. The other way I used this activity was for articulation/language. I used the questions with the gingerbread house along with the game

Christmas Card Scale Drawings

This activity was engaging and really helped my students grasp how to use scale factor to enlarge or compress an image. I had the students pick their own Christmas/Holiday card to bring to class which made it personal and fun for them. I used clear overhead transparencies and copied a 1cm grid onto them. I then laminated the transparency onto the Christmas card which helped speed the process along. Otherwise they have to draw on their own lines which can be challenging for some students. I fo
