2D & 3D Shapes Scavenger Hunt

I used this activity for my special education students learning about 2D & 3D objects after completing some practice notes. We went around the school and found real life examples of each shape and drew a picture (as best as they could) of the object. You could easily adapt this to just your classroom if you have all the shapes available there. This is a good hands on activity for those students that learn by doing. It works for a range of grade levels and could be combined with my 3D Shapes

My school board/district has asked us to have students work "asynchronously" for the last hour of the school day, which will offer us prep time, while they are offline.I have created a choice board with lots of fun "winter" themed activities that students can do. My recommendation would be to ask students do complete 3 activities per day, with the goal of completing the whole choice board over the course of the month! I would change the choices on the board once a month (it is an editable word d

Studio Habit Drawing Centers

As a choice-based TAB teacher, I seek to create opportunities for my students to develop studio habits in an engaging and open-ended way. These studio habit drawing centers I created (adapted from Studio Thinking from the Start) worked wonders! I set these signs up at different tables with corresponding materials. At the Explore table I set up unique drawing tools like specialty markers and oil pastels. At the Connect table I set up large butcher paper. At the Express table I set up a basket wit

Topic Cards for Choice-Based Painting Project

I had been brainstorming how to introduce 2nd&3rd graders to different kinds of painting without discounting where their interests lie...I wanted to create a painting lesson that utilizes previously practiced techniques within a specific subject matter. My conclusion: creating topic cards that students can choose from within the same lesson! These include self-portraits, landscapes, abstract painting, and “things we love.” One side of the card has the vocabulary, prompts for envisioning, and
