Common Core K-4 Mathematics Guiding Questions

I created this document for the K-4 teachers in my district because the Common Core is not only new but written at a level that doesn't translate well for elementary teachers. This is a list of the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice written for K-4 teachers! It also contains a list of guiding questions for each of these standards adapted from various math series'. This list can be kept with your math lesson plan book so you know all the practice standards are being taken care of!

This is a math checklist that students can use during each activity. It helps them to self-assess and follow the steps carefully to be successful in their learning. I suggest lamenting them, so that students can use them in daily math activities with dry erase markers. Great for ELL's because it includes pictures, as well!

Snowball Math- addition, subtraction, money, and shapes

We loved our indoor snowball fight/math review! HOW TO: I cut out the squares and handed each student one to start with. They had to solve the math problem before balling it up and throwing it on our reading carpet. Then students went to select a new snowball to solve! There are "freeze" ones that have a short physical activity. The last pages are blank for students to fill in their answers, but there is no answer key for the teacher. The money and shapes require your own directions. We chose to

Print Cards on Card Stock and set one card in each group. Students will have an answer document that they will take with them as they switch from one center to the next. Students should spend between 15 - 20 minutes at each center before moving on. Once all centers have been visited, you can go over the answers with the students.
