Starting your own school newspaper isn't difficult. I've run (and created) our school newspaper for three years. This document has most of the materials you'll need for set-up. The newspaper club in my school was open to fifth grade students and printed copies were distributed in the school to faulty, staff, classroom libraries, school common areas, and to the newspaper club members. My third graders are learning how to make our writing more exciting this week, so I made this as an introduction. The first page is for them to do with me as a class and glue into their Writer's Notebooks. The next pages are for them to practice on their own. I wanted to focus on three types of hooks: asking a question, stating a fact, and painting a picture.
