Perimeter and Area Real World Task
This task asks students to pretend they have been hired by a home improvement company to solve two problems for them. The first job requires students to examine the relationship between perimeter and area to help "Mr. Baker" design his garden. The second job focuses students on applying their understanding of area to help a family tile their kitchen. Let me know if you like it and I will upload some more tasks.

City Block Math Project
This project was originally created to be used with highly gifted students in a fourth grade classroom, but can most definitely be adapted for other ages and abilities as well. Some skills that it focuses on: multiplication, division, perimeter, area, money, and drawing to scale.
For this project, I create groups of students who together design a city block based on requirements that I have given them. They must find the area of each building and will later use these areas to determine costs

Fraction Division using String!
After a discussion of reciprocals, students work in cooperative groups to prove the fraction division algorithm by folding lengths of string into fractional parts. After practicing by dividing a whole number length of string, they divide a fractional string length into smaller fractional parts.
Aha Moment: When finished, students will have proven why the abstract concept of fraction division is equal to multiplying by the reciprocal of the second fraction.

Let's Celebrate Pi Day! 3.14
This is a full lesson to celebrate Pi in Math! The lesson includes the lesson plan with CCSS and objective, photo of the activity being performed, direction sheet with chart to fill in for students, and a question sheet for closure.
Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th, for 3-14. The students have fun proving Pi for circles.

Estimate and Measure with Bites!
Students will use food to get a hands-on experience with estimating and measuring. Students will first take a chip (or pretzel) and estimate the length. When recorded, they will then use their ruler to measure the chip. After everything is written, students will take a (small!) bite of the chip, and repeat the process.
