I like to begin this unit with clips from the Cotton Club and short documentaries on the Harlem Renaissance Movement. Playing music from this era really establishes the mood of this period. There are 8 work stations, each takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. I put students into groups of 4-5. I explain how to do each work station before they begin. The students sit with their groups and I give each group one of the folders. While they work, I circulate around the room to assist.
