Mapping the Ring of Fire Worksheet with keys for Earthquakes and Volcanoes.

Created by

This is great worksheet to show students how a seismologist would collect seismic data and plot the coordinates on a map. The coordinates map out the boundaries of the Ring of Fire. You might have to spend a little time teaching the students how to read longitude and latitude but if they have had any experience graphing coordinates in Math then it shouldn't be too difficult. The biggest problem is the East is on the left side of the map and West is on the right. I had to spend a little time with

This hands-on lab activity allows students to model the Coriolis Effect - feel and see it happen right before their eyes. Students use balloons as the Earth and draw the winds as the balloon earths spin on their axis. They can see the Coriolis Effect happen and see the directions that the winds blow on both the

To extend what was there, I took what was just the activity and changed into a hands on with questions and a map added to it and put it in student friendly written instructions instead of verbal instructions. I am using this in an environmental science class that has freshmen to seniors. It is a very simple and cheap activity that really i
