Vector Treasure Hunt! Drawing Vectors Activity for Physics or Precalculus!

Ahoy, matey! Your students will have a blast practicing drawing vectors on this Vector Treasure Hunt! Students must follow written directions to draw vectors onto a treasure map. If they draw their vectors correctly, the students will find the buried treasure! Students will need to use a protractor and a ruler to draw their vectors. When they are finished, they will draw a "shortcut" on the map. This will be the resultant vector and show the displacement of the ship. Students will also ge

Vector Addition "Road Trip" Lab Activity

Overview:In this activity, students will use both the tip-to-tail graphing method and the analytical components method of vector addition in order to determine the resultant displacement of two, cross-country, trips which each have three individual "legs."Materials:Ruler, Protractor, Pencil, Calculator, Handout

In this inquiry-based project, students will learn how to use basic trigonometric functions such as cosine, tangent and sine to find the missing side distances and angles of a right-angle triangle.Students will explore how fireworks of varying heights will affect the viewing angle and line of sight for the viewing audience.Students will design their own fireworks show that will include 4 different colours of fireworks. Each firework choice has a differing explosion height, which will slightly ch

I like to call this activity Putt-Putt-Geometry. It is 9 glorious holes of trigonometry application! This works great as a Trig unit project, end of year project, or test review (maybe 1 or 2 holes for review). The students can work in groups, pairs, or individuals. If your students are not proficient with Trig, or you have not covered it yet, each hole can be done using the Pythagorean Theorem instead - simply tweak the directions a bit. I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine do!

Trigonometry Project

Students use a picture of themselves and create a trigonometry story, i.e. a word problem that pertains to their particular picture. This is a great application of SOH CAH TOA! I have included a sample of what the project could look like. The sample one isn't typed but it gives the overall objective of the project. Students can really let their creativity shine!

Project and Rubric - Real World Math (The Pythagorean Theorem)

"In math class, you have learned about the Pythagorean Theorem. You have also seen examples of how the Pythagorean Theorem is used in ‘real life.’ For this task you will create your own “real life” Pythagorean Theorem word problem and model using the following steps..." Students will create and solve their own word problem, construct a 3D model of their scenario, and then write a reflection on their process and experience. *Rubric is included. *This project was created in collaboration with c

This is generally aTWO-DAY investigation that the students do in small groups. The students use their knowledge of 30-60-90 triangles to come up with the values for sine and cosine within the context of a Ferris wheel. Extentions include discussion of co-terminal angles, unit circle, amplitude, period, and phase shift. Prerequisite knowledge: Special Right Triangles and Radian measure. I do this BEFORE discussing the unit circle and end up referring to this investigation throughout our discussion

Students will use their creativity to think outside of the box to create an artistic representation of the Unit Circle. My students loved this project! I also had the students create their own rubric to accompany the project. I found that students made the rubric more challenging than I would have. Examples from my classroom are included to help spark creativity. The file is a word document so that it can be edited to meet the needs of your classroom.

Indirect Measurement Project: similar triangles, right triangle trigonometry

This is an outdoor project with 5 stations for students to acquire hands on experience with indirect measuring using different tools, right triangle trig, and similar triangles. Station 1: The mirror method Students use a mirror to create similar triangles and measure the height of a tall object. Station 2: The clinometer method Students use a clinometer and tangent to solve for the height of a tall object. Directions to make a quick, simple, and cheap clinometer are included. Station 3: T

This packet contains over 380 bell ringer problems (AKA do nows or warm ups) for an entire Trigonometry course. Problems are broken up into sets of six (there are a few that are sets of three, but only a few) that can be done on a daily basis. Also contained in the document is a copy of the Bell Work Sheet on page three. Students receive a Bell Work Sheet at the beginning of the week and do their work each day until they submit their sheet on Friday for the teacher to assess. Each day, the tea

Law of Sines and Cosines Map Activity

Students apply the Law of Sines and Cosines by finding the distance or angles on the given map. Students draw triangles between 3 given cities. They then fill in given distances and/or angles between the cities and use the Law of Sines or Law of Cosines to solve for the missing angle or distance measure. I do this in groups depending on the level of the students.

Graphing and writing trigonometry equations of various Ferris Wheels

Explore graphing Sine functions using the real-life context of a Ferris Wheel. There are a total of six Ferris Wheels that allow students to get a feel for the cyclic Sine wave and writing equations to match the scenario. There is a seventh Ferris Wheel that I use as a quiz. An answer key is available, and I will send it to verified buyers via e-mail on request (woodchucker17@yahoo.com). Unfortunately, I cannot get a good PDF scan at this time. You can modify them in different ways for differen
