UIL Elementary Number Sense practice book part 2
These are practice lessons I have put together to work with 4th and 5th graders on the second section of the Number Sense test (questions 20-40) for UIL.
Lessons include: converting fractions/decimals/percentages, prime numbers, LCM and GCD, ratios, adding and subtracting fractions, comparing fractions, and squares.
Please note, this is meant to be used with students AFTER they have mastered the lessons in the first practice book I have created.

Students read a short bio of both men, then fill out an organizer comparing their objectives and strategies before analyzing a poem about the 2 men by Dudley Randall. Students retain the information well and good discussion is generated by the poem and an opinion question.

How to draw /build a house with shapes Creative Curriculum Buildings
This is a printout use to make two shape houses (they are the same color) using different colored contact paper. This is used in the building study with the Creative Curriculum. I printed out on white paper and then stuck the colored contact paper wanted for each piece in copy machine one at a time to make sure each piece turned out the color I wanted. The picture you see for the thumbnail is when it is printed on different colored contact paper. In word it does not look like might much as it is

In this mini-lesson students read a selection to see why a folk song was written about the tall tale hero, John Henry. Then they answer ten multiple choice questions by putting a circle around each correct answer. Measures of Central Tendency (Guided Notes on Mean, Median, and Mode)

Checking Account Mini Lesson and Activity
This is a one day activity. Students learn about deposits and withdrawls and the consequences of cashing a bad check. They are required to keep a check book accurately and there are pretend checks for the students to practice with. American Slavery: Slave Hymns / Spirituals / Work Songs
Always a great activity. Students analyze the lyrics of famous slave spirituals for their religious and social covert meanings.
