NYC ZIZI

While in college for Music Education, I worked with children 6 weeks to 5 years old in a child care setting. Once I received my music certification, I quickly realized there were no jobs in my field, and went back to school for early childhood, childhood, and special education. Because jobs on Long Island are hard to find, I decided to try my luck in New York City, where I landed my first teaching job at a middle school in Brooklyn. Despite the fact that my experience was in early childhood and elementary aged children, I gave it my all. At the end of my first year teaching I received a score of Highly Effective. At the beginning of my second year of teaching, my school and I found out that we were awarded an overall rating of an "A." After two years in a challenging, low income school, I decided to transfer to another title one school in Harlem, New York City. Currently, I am teaching 2nd grade and loving it!! My hard work and innovative materials and lesson plans are still being shared all over Brooklyn, and now in Harlem too. I love the beach and despite traveling 5 hours a day to get to work, I will never move off of Long Island. Who would move away from the beach?! My sister and I are both special education teachers, and my mother is a social worker for BOCES. With the love and support of my family, I continue to work hard to teach some of the most challenging, and LOVING students in NYC. In case you were curious…ZIZI means little aunt in Italian, and I'm a proud aunt starting from the young age of 14!
