Writing Song Lyrics: The Patchwork Quilt method
This is a super easy activity from your perspective as a teacher, and a fun little project for students. It's much like the concept of "Blackout poetry" but students will use song lyrics instead. From a list of 35 songs (on the handout) they will choose 2 lyrics from ~10 of the songs and then write their "own" song around those lyrics. I started thinking about making this resource as I was listening to "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac and the lyrics are "Thunder only happens when it rains." Well, that's just not true. :) Or what about when U2 gets MLK's time of death wrong? Yeah, there are tons are lyrics out there that are just lies.
