The Literature of Music Elective: Use Songs to teach English Language Arts

Use Music to teach English Language Arts. Students love the variety in all of these activities and they thrive when you give them the chance to select their own music for analysis. I created all of these resources to be used in an elective ELA class called "The Literature of Music." There is no perfect order that you need to follow, which allows for lots of flexibility. Student ownership, critical analysis of text (lyrics) and discussion were some of my must-haves as I made these units. It works well to get all of this content into one semester (half the school year). Or you could sprinkle in lessons here and there within any English Language Arts class to last the whole year.
