This is an original game I invented and used at school gardens in California and Texas - HUGE HIT! It's fun to challenge students' knowledge and INTUITION about creatures that might be found in nature and around the garden. All photos are original! Students learn by playing the game. Find out which insects are beneficial and why. Instead of instantly swatting at all insects, students will respect the role they play, e.g., predator, member of the food web, pollinator, etc. To play, two groups

Food Chain Game- Food chains, Food webs, Ecosystems, outdoors

This is one of the favorites of the year for my class. We go outside and play a sophisticated game of tag. Students are assigned different goals based on these instructions. As a teacher you can simulate different conditions by changing how many students are playing which role. For example, to simulate a forest fire have only a few plants left and see what happens to the ecosystem. To simulate overhunting we have too few wolves and too many deer. Give this a try it is a lot of fun!

Weathering and Erosion vocabulary can be difficult for students to master. Help your students by providing them with vocabulary matching cards. Students can work independently or together to match the term with the definition AND an illustrated example. Give your students a black and white copy OR print them in color and laminate for long term use. Instead of writing definitions, let them play a "matching", "go fish" or "memory" game for engaged learning!!

Brief: In this Next Generation Science Standards Aligned lab, students write rules for a game that simulates how a food chain works. They play two games: In Game 1, they play their first iteration of rules, taking 12 rounds of population data, and graphing the data. In Game 2, students play revised rules; tweaking their original set of rules to make the game a better model for a real ecosystem. They, again, graph their data, and analyze the results by answering conclusion questions. This ac

STUDENTS LOVE THIS GAMEThe game takes students through evolution and ecology scenarios using dice to roll for animals, locations, and climate change scenarios. All while answering relevant ecological questions along the way. During the second half of the game, they battle it out for "the survival of the fittest" I edited this game with my students to involve some more "lively" challenges like "paper ball asteroids". Play in groups 2-6 players, I try for smaller groups of 3-4. Supplies needed f

Students are assigned a starting population of frogs from one of 11 different ponds in the Central Florida area. They track the health of their population over a 10-year simulated timespan (10 rolls of the dice). Each time they roll, something happens to their frogs that year that impacts the population. Sometimes an alligator moves into their pond and starts eating frogs. Sometimes a hurricane hits increasing the size of their pond and the number of insects their frogs eat (resulting in a p
