September 11th Spanish Reading, Numbers, and Cognates Activity
I use this in Spanish 1 classes on September 11th. Students read in Spanish about what occurred, paying close attention to cognates and numbers.
I photocopy the two pages front-to-back. We read it aloud as a class, circling the cognates as we go. Afterwards students fill in the back to review numbers and cognates.
This activity is editable and easily modified.

"Calamar Gigante" Spanish Authentic Resource
In October there was a GIANT squid that was found in Spain. I took parts of an authentic newspaper and then did some research on Squids to gather fun "squid" facts. I created this appealing "current event" for the students to read "authentic news" in Spanish. I also made some questions for the students to answer in English to be able to check for student comprehension.
Use this to incorporate more authentic materials in your classroom! You could do silent reading, group work, sub plans, etc.
