These worksheets are a reading comprehension activity about a traditional Puerto Rican dessert called Piragua. They are sold by street vendors, especially during hot weather. Students are asked to read and answer comprehension questions and define vocabulary from the reading passages. Students will also learn the difference between a legend, folklore and a tale. Lotus Shoe Origami Story
This is a short story in which students can follow along while making Origami. The story is about a young girl in China who is about to have her feet bound. Foot-binding practice was popular in China. Three-inch feet were considered the best. People called them 'three-inch golden lotuses'. Students can learn about culture and develop empathy through this activity. This is a great listening activity for ages 10 and up.
