Algebra 1 Common Core Mastery Tests -- all 13 topics

13 tests, 4 versions of each. My students improved from 47% to 63% proficient or advanced on the California State Test the year that I added 6 of these tests as review and reinforcement in my Algebra 2 class (2010-11). They cover ESSENTIAL SKILLS from Algebra 1. I now teach Algebra 2 and don't have data from Algebra 1. The questions on these MASTERY TESTS have been carefully designed to cover all aspects of a topic using problems of easy to medium difficulty. I require students to get at lea

This activity includes 17 different scenarios (for 17 individuals, or 17 groups) where students are required to select a target point, use vertex form to find an equation for their projectile. They check for accuracy, by comparing their graph's x intercepts to their equation's solutions (via the quadratic formula). If their solutions don't match (within 2), they need to rework the equation. The finished product is displayed on a poster.

The Quadratic Formula and Finding Roots Using Goal Seek on a Spreadsheet

Students will be guided to produce a spreadsheet from a blank Excel workbook that uses the quadratic formula to find the roots of a quadratic equation. They will then be guided to graph the functions and see the intersection points of the graph with the X axis. Then other nonlinear functions will be solved using Goal Seek. Goal Seek is a trial and error that allows students to solve equations that cannot be solved algebraically. Students will bring all terms of the equation to one side and

I made YouTube tutorials over topics in Algebra 1. I use this for a flipped classroom and also for students to be able to practice at home so they can practice the skills we are learning in class. This way they do not have to just come in to tutorials and can do it at home or on the road. Videos have a lot of "Dora the Explorer" type teaching where they can pause video and try the problem then come back and I do it with them. They get immediate feedback so they know if they know if they did i

This fun game is for practice with factoring polynomials. There are 6 stations that each have a factoring focus. By solving the station puzzle the student gets another digit to the code box, which has the cure inside. Designed for team play in class but other ways can be adapted. Answer key is included. I have tons of fun with this.
