Quilts of the Heart Craft Activity for SMART Board
Every year during the winter my students and I love to make paper quilts. There is so much American history in the topic of quilting. This activity is fun for students of any age as they create quilt blocks from a template. The SMART Board activity is linked to literature, math and social studies. Common Core Standards for 3rd grade are included along with step by step instructions and examples. Finally there is an interactive quilt page where students can create their own quilt.

How I Teach Trigonometry Ratios Part 1
This is a 25 page Smartboard file explaining how to establish the ratios needed to do basic trigonometry. The lesson starts out giving definitions for hypotenuse, opposite, and adjacent. Next comes the words sine, cosine, and tangent along with a mnemonic to help remember the ratios. There is plenty of practice choosing which ratio you have and all practice pages include answers.

Solving Right Triangle Activity
If a student steals a cookie...
Directions: Place students into 5 - 6 groups. In case you want, I included a random group generator into the SMART file for you. Students solve the problems on a whiteboard/paper. If the team gets it right, send one person from the group up to the board to pop open a box to see what they get...but be careful! There are many game changers in there just for you...and them!
