African-American Music-Part 3: History/Influences On Today's Music-SMBD/NTBK. ED

This entertaining and engaging interactive Smart Notebook lesson (appropriate for grades 4-8) takes elementary music students on a journey through African-American Music and Culture. The journey begins during the Civil War era and continues up through the mid 1900's Jazz era. This particular file is Part 3 of a 3 Part unit. Parts 1 and 2 are also sold in my TpT store. Genres explored and studied in this unit (Part 1, 2, and 3 combined) are as follows:

Activities included in this interactive unit are researching/understanding the significance of the Civil War and the purpose of the Underground Railroad and how music played a huge role in this movement, identifying the characteristics of Ragtime music, identifying why/how the Blues originated, and classifying/labeling/identifying the various forms of Jazz. This file is very large. Because of its size, some chapters/files have been compressed into zip files and are sold in 3 consecutive products (Parts 1, 2, & 3, are all available via my TpT store) and are meant to be sequential lessons. When size allows, some Video, Sound clips, Listening maps, suggested websites, children's literature connections are attached to this file. However, due to copyright laws and overly large files, some media files are not attached but directions and/or web addresses are given on how to attach them on your own.
